Marilena Nikoloudia
Moien! My name is Marilena and I'm a freelance tour guide. I've been mainly working in Luxembourg city, but I'm also delivering beer tours in English and French at the Brasserie Nationale. For this year's "Guide for one day" I'd like to propose a walking tour on the Mansfeld trail in Clausen. I've been working on creating a tour which can be accessible to visually impaired and visually able people, a tour focusing on the architectural details of 3 buildings on that trail. Other than that, I could gladly provide a walking tour in the old town for people that recently moved to Luxembourg. I speak English and French fluently. My mother tongue is Greek.

The starting point is the Mansfeld park in Clausen, which was the heart of the La Fontaine residence, built by Count Peter-Ernest of Mansfeld. Then we will head to Brasserie Mansfeld next to the river banks. Right there we will admire the former entrance porch to the Renaissance gardens of the estate.

It had already been transferred to its present-day location in front of the Brasserie by the early 19th century. Then we will follow Clausen street and turn left into Malakoff street. There we’ll be in front of the second sight on this tour: a solemn gate, the gateway to the Mansfeld residence. It presents interesting architectural elements to be explored through touch. Afterwards, we will continue uphill to reach the Malakoff tower, the third sight of the tour, on this beautiful winding road. Finally, we will descend towards the river Alzette and return to Park Mansfeld.

I’m designing this tour with an inclusive approach which can make it accessible to visually impaired people. Throughout the tour, I will be providing detailed audio descriptions and invite all the participants to use their sense of touch and exchange their impressions of the three sights we’ll visit.
