Guided tour through the local districts Burange and Baltzeng (in Dudelange)

A tour of the former villages Burange and Baltzeng (nowadays part of Dudelange) with a historical background: the massacre of the 17 Mai 1794, when a bloody argument erupted between the local farmers and inhabitants of the villages that were part of the former ”Seigneurie Mont Saint Jean” (Dudelange, Burange, Baltzeng, Budersberg) and the French revolutionary troops. During this massacre 74 inhabitants died, 42 of which were executed (at the exact spot where the cross, that was constructed in 1894, is standing today). Nevertheless, this walking tour should also depict the development of a village over the years and to this day, with all the constraints that a district in the south of Luxembourg has been exposed to. Moreover, the tour should demonstrate the mixture of various different landscapes that the south of our country has become: forests, meadows, fields and idyllic residential areas in direct proximity to industries, industrial buildings and traffic infrastructures.
