Walking-tour through the provincial town Machtum

The tour will take the visitors through the provincial town Machtum with its picturesque winegrower houses from the period before World War I. Here stands the so-called ”Rieteschkräiz” from 1624, a former wayside cross that is partly build into the side wall of a chapel. The tour will then take us into the vineyards, from where one can already see the Dolomiti rocks in Nittel (ca. 60 million years). On the way we will encounter some information boards, which show the geology as well as the former landscape of the area. Soon after that we will reach the highlight of the tour, the lookout point ”Haangeberreg”. Enjoy one of the most photographed views over the Mosel valley and the small towns Machtum, Nittel (D), Grevenmacher, Wellen (D) and many more. The Luxembourgish poet Batty Weber wrote:…where the landscape unfolds a charm second to none.” Afterwards the tour will take us back to the starting point in Machtum.
